I have always associated the clarinet with sounds that are flowing, expressive and intimate .i.e poetic. Poetica is my new album on which I play clarinet only. I made this album, and named it Poetica, to inspire others to share this association with me.
Omer Avital wrote beautiful string quartet arrangements to some of the songs on the album.

...from the press:
Washington Post, Friday, May 11, 2007:
“Poetica”…is the most lyrical of the two releases, an imaginatively arranged session showcasing Cohen’s mastery of the clarinet.
She’s not only in fine form, her tone delightfully fluid and assured, but also in fine company…
New York Sun, May 8, 2007:
[This is] stunningly beautiful music…that transcends all borders, whether of the generic or the geographical variety.
Global Rhythm, June 2007:
Especially on clarinet, Cohen’s is a compelling and original voice of great promise.
Pop Matters, April 16, 2007:
...both records share her round romantic tone and her restless world-embracing spirit.
Where Noir is large and all-embracing, Poetica is tighter, sharper, and more personal.
All About Jazz NY, May 5, 2007:
Cinematic, with its emotionally expressive ability to conjure scenes and settings, the ten tracks move in a rhythmic current.
Cohen appears to be sidling up to a melodic tradition that suits her.
Audiophile Audition, 2007:
[Anat] says “I like to be able to fit into a situation, not stand out, and become one with what’s going on.” And that she does most successfully on both of these highly recommended discs. |
